Guiding Principles

Appreciative

Where we put our energy and focus grows, so we identify what has been working well to build on past strengths toward a more successful future. Asking guided questions is one way to uncover these rich stories of success.

Multicultural

We take a multicultural perspective to allow for divergent and creative perspectives to emerge and be shared. Better quality decisions can be made and acted upon when a fuller range of possibilities has been explored.

Relational

Communication takes place between people and it is in this space between that meaning, understanding and relationships are made. The more effectively we can align the actual impact we have on others with our intended communication, the better the quality of our interactions.

Voice

We strive to create atmospheres in which people feel safe to trust and respect each other to voice their opinions and concerns. This is critical to forming inclusive environments where people can engage in dialogue to feel heard and acknowledged.

Systemic

Nothing happens in isolation and every word spoken or not spoken; every action taken or not taken; impacts all other aspects of the system. This is similar to tossing a pebble into a pond and watching the ripples spread from where the pebble initially entered the water. As we live in open systems that are subject to change, it is important for us to be mindful of these far-reaching implications.

Perspective Taking

We all hold our own points of view on how we see the world, interpret events, and make meaning from our interpretations, which satisfy our need to know. Each of us is unique and while our points of view may differ, all views have a place. The challenge is to manage the tension of holding on to our own views while entertaining the views of others. Enter in with curiosity to discover how these perspectives were created.
